Finding a Surfing Job

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

We all look for ways to increase our income that doesn’t involve options beyond our scope of expertise or availability. Many people are choosing a telecommute position or work from home scenario to spend more time with their families or just have the freedom of being able to work in their jammies! We all use the internet frequently and constantly get bombarded by ads giving us more information than we probably ever wanted. We like to check some of them out and sometimes, reading one article or ad can lead us to another of similar interest. Wouldn’t it be great if we could get paid for surfing?

Looking Around for Options

PTS (Paid To Surf) or PTC (Paid To Click) websites have been around since the beginning of the .com boom. Many companies are willing to pay individuals money, goods and services just for surfing the web. Normally, a toolbar is installed with company’s web links and the user would simply click on the link, review the website and click on things of interest to them. This would help the advertiser find what sites consumers were visiting and better design websites and product catalogues and menus to reach the largest group of appropriate consumers. Today, the PTC and PTS websites are not as plentiful as they used to be but there are still dozens of sites out there that actually DO pay.

They’re Out There

A quick minute or two researching these types of sites will bring you to many different websites which offer this type of income. You can also find reviews from different people and sites giving job search advice online to find just the right company for you. Some sites just ask you to click on links listed on their page and choose an offer. By choosing the offer, you receive credit or actual cash and often don’t have to complete the offer by purchasing anything. Other more direct sites still ask you to install a toolbar which allows them to track the sites you visit and relay that information to their client.

Surfing or Snowboarding?

Saturday, June 16th, 2012

When it comes to balance, many people don’t have the ability to surf or snowboard. Even to those that have an overabundance of balance, it is not always the easiest task to learn either one. When deciding which of these sports to pursue, it is first important to consider all of the variables.

WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU

Obviously, where you live will have an impact on which sport you lean towards. If you live in, say, Montana, chances are you aren’t going to want to trek across the country just to learn how to surf. Of course, many inland states have establishments that have strived to replicate a watery environment suitable for surfing, but that is just not the same. In addition to the place you live and how far it would be to participate in these activities, you also have to consider the costs involved. Not only do you have to get the actual boards, you have to consider any accessories that you may need as well as clothing that will be adequate for the activity you choose. Most towns and cities that are known for these activities also have plenty of places to rent the equipment, if you so choose. For example, in San Diego you can find a surfboard rental shop on pretty much every corner near the beaches. In Beaver Creek rentals of snowboards are offered in plenty of ski shops. However, it is very unlikely that you will immediately master these activities and rentals add up.

SOFT LANDING

Another factor to consider is the fact that while learning to either snowboard or surf, you are going to fall. There is always the possibility that you will be a natural but chances are that gravity will win a few battles before you win the war. You have to decide which you feel is a softer landing when that inevitable collision with gravity transpires. If you took fifty people and put them in a room together and asked which hurt less, snow or water, you would likely find yourself in a split room. Pain is very personal and the fact that someone insists the snow is softer won’t fix your broken arm. You have to decide which fall is least likely to cause you injury.

No matter which you choose, remember to have fun! Really, that is what it is all about.

Surfing Healthy

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

Surfing is awesome, and it is a great sport, and is enjoyed all around the world. People in Hawaii, where the sport originated, flock to the ocean in droves to catch a wave.  Surfers also enjoy riding the waves in Australia or California. It is growing in popularity among people of all ages and are enjoying many health benefits from it as well. Surfing has cardiovascular benefits from all the paddling, and this is also helping to strengthen the shoulders and back. The legs and core are engaged so they can hold you up on the board, so these get strong, lean, and healthy-looking as well. People who love to surf get in really good shape, and this just makes surfing even more enjoyable. But people with the condition fibromyalgia might need to be very careful before they paddle out to catch a wave because of the widespread muscle pain that is associated with the disorder.

Surfing And Fibromyalgia

Anyone who wants to go surfing should learn more about their fibromyalgia disorder and how they can manage it while they are out in the water. It should be easily managed with a prescription, but they should at least ask their doctor about taking on a new sport like surfing before they head out to the beach. Fibromyalgia information is also available online, so some surfing should be done on the internet before they go surfing in the ocean.  The muscle pain can really inhibit someone from being able to engage their muscles properly, which will make it hard to paddle out and stand on the board. Someone who wants to go surfing should probably build some muscle strength on land with weights or in a pool, using methods that engage the muscles, but are slowly and gently building muscles and getting the body used to using these muscles.

Once the body is used to movements like paddling in water and there is a level of leg and core strength built up, then a fibromyalgia sufferer can enjoy surfing, while taking a painkiller for their widespread muscle pain.

Also, the Go Pro Surf Cam is another cool gift idea from the Go Pro line of cameras, that fuses to the front of a surfboard and allows the surfer to record themselves. They also sell other mounting accessories, like a wrist mount. Other equipment to consider when buying a gift for a surfer are neoprene hoods (to prevent Surfer’s Ear), surfboard racks for bicycles, surfboard ding repair kits, surfboard fins or Indoboards (a surfer cross trainer that helps improve balance and strength).

Otherwise think media

And if you want to buy your surfer something they’ll enjoy when they’re not in the water, anything media-wise is also a great idea.  A magazine subscription to either The Surfer’s Journal, Surfer Magazine or Wend Magazine will surely make any diehard surfer pleased.  And there are loads of surfing-inspired books to also check out: “Saltwater Buddha” by Jalmal Yogis, “In Search of Captain Zero” by Allan Welsbecker, “Caught Inside” by Daniel Duane and “The California Surf Project” by Eric Soderquist and Chris Burkard. Also, fitness dvds with a surfing slant are another great idea. “Surfing into Yoga with Rochelle Ballard” and “Surf Exercises with Taylor Knox” are a few popular ideas.

Plus Sized Surf Swimsuits

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

When it comes to surfing for women, images come to mind of small, petite women like Gidget but the reality is that surfing has become a popular sport for women of all ages and sizes.

The key to success for any women who want to enjoy surfing is finding the right swimsuit and that’s easy to do if she knows where and how to look.

Materials

When it comes to swimsuit materials there are four main types to choose from: polyester, cotton, spandex and nylon. Each material has its own positive and negative attributes but probably the easiest swimsuit material to wear is nylon. Unlike other materials, nylon won’t ride up on you when you’re in the water and expose assets that you don’t want other people to see. Nylon swimsuits are also more durable and designed to withstand many washes over a period of time.

Style

You should choose plus size swim wear that has a pattern on top and a solid color on the bottom. It’s also important to consider buying a swimsuit with a higher cut bottom because; this will help your legs to appear longer and leaner than they actually are.

Coverage

If you don’t want everyone seeing your potential problem areas when you hit the beach, you should choose a swimsuit like the classic halter. This style provides more coverage while helping your body to look trim and fit at the same time.

Wet Suit vs. Swimsuit

If you surf a lot, not just during the summer months, you should choose a plus size wetsuit instead of just purchasing a plus size swimsuit. In this day and age there are plenty of plus size wet suits to choose from thanks to companies like Henderson who makes wetsuits that look great and are durable.

To find the best plus size wetsuit that’s right for you, check online with websites like amazon.com. Just make sure that you know your size measurements first before you buy.
